I found a bit <a href=
"http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/webnotes/install/mac/mac-jre.html">
more information</a> that may be pertinent. Apparently, when
you install Java 7 JRE, it does NOT update symlinks or add Java to
your path. This page also states that if I want to update
this path and symlinks, I need to install the JDK. <br>
<br>
So, if when I run a basic 'java -version' command on my system, I
get this:<br>
<blockquote><tt><br>
$ java -version<br>
No Java runtime present, requesting install.<br></tt></blockquote>
<br>
Followed by a pop-up with a few buttons. (Which seems
odd...what is it that is taking me to an install page when I run a
Java command??)<br>
<br>
<img alt=""><br>
<br>
The 'More Info' button takes you <a href=
"http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html">
here</a>, a JDK download page, where the current JDK version is
8u5.<br>
<br>
However, if I run the command below, I get a proper response:<br>
<br>
<blockquote><tt> </tt> <tt>$ /Library/Internet\
Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java
-version</tt><br>
<tt>java version "1.7.0_60"</tt><br>
<tt>Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_60-b19)</tt><br>
<tt>Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.60-b09, mixed
mode)</tt><br>
<tt> </tt><br></blockquote>
<br>
So I do appear to have it installed, just not added to the path
correctly. Is it as simple as adding it to the path?<br>
